Credit report
Credit report will be free to all Americans beginning September 1st, 2005, regardless of where ever they live. The federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) requires that U.S. consumers be entitled to a free credit report each year. The nations credit reporting agencies have come together to built a website known as www.annualcreditreport.com. You can view them instantly on this website. You can also call them at 877-322-8228 and request your free credit report. or complete the Annual Credit Report Request Form and mail it to: Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348-5281. The form is on the back of this brochure; or you can print it from www.ftc.gov/credit. Do not contact the three nationwide consumer reporting companies individually.
You may order your reports from each of the three nationwide consumer reporting companies at the same time, or you can order from only one or two. The law allows you to order one free copy from each of the nationwide consumer reporting companies every 12 months.
It may take 15 days to receive your report. You can get credit report from all the major credit agencies but you might have to pay up to $9.50 or subscribe if you contact any credit agency directly.To get the credit report you will be asked your name address, Social security number and date of birth. They might also need your prior address. As a security measure they might ask you some questions . . To maintain the security of your file, each nationwide consumer reporting company may ask you for some information that only you would know, like the amount of your monthly mortgage payment. Each company may ask you for different information because the information each has in your file may come from different sources.

Even before September 1 2005 free credit report existed by you could only access it if you are being turned down for credit and you should apply for the free copy within 60 days. There were some states like Colorado, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, or Vermont where you could get a copy freely once a year. If you have any disputes with the report tell the consumer reporting company, in writing, what information you think is inaccurate. They will look into it and report it within 30 days. Your loan amount and interest rates depend on the credit report. So it is important for you to check your credit report. You can also check whether you have been a victim to identity theft. It is always desirable to be in touch with your credit report.
